What we collect

Your email address (used for magic-link sign-in and, if you join the waitlist, product updates), the books and chapters you create, and basic anonymous usage analytics (page views via self-hosted analytics — no advertising trackers).

Your content

Books you create are private to your account. We don't sell your content or use it to train AI models. We look at it only when needed to run, support, or fix the service. You can export everything (EPUB, PDF, HTML) at any time.

API keys

If you add your own Anthropic API key, it is encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and used only to generate content you request.

Third-party services

Text you write in Book Factory is sent only to the services below, and only what each one needs:

  • Vercel: hosts the app, so everything you send passes through it. Its AI Gateway also relays your chapters to TypeSafe.
  • Railway: stores your account and books, and builds your book files.
  • Anthropic (Claude): your book details, outline, and chapters, to write, edit, and review them.
  • TypeSafe (Jev): each chapter, to score it for the quality verdict.
  • Cloudflare (Workers AI): only when the main route to Jev is down — the same chapter text, scored by the same Jev model that Cloudflare also hosts, as a backup.
  • Google (Gemini): for non-fiction, your book's title, audience, direction, and chapter titles for research, and your chapters for fact-checking; for fiction, your chapters when you run a continuity check or scene analysis in the Quality tab; for any book, your book's title, description, genre and direction when you generate cover art (and the generated image, to check it carries no stray lettering).
  • Resend: your email address for sign-in links and, in reminder emails, your book's title.
